Install Oracle Database 11g R2 on Linux RHEL/CentOS 6.5 – Section 1 (Single Instance)

Install CentOS Linux 6.5 64bit

Create a Linux Virtual Machine in Oracle Virtual Box:

Server Specifications

Server Name Database Instance Name Database Name CPU Memory Operation System
newzonetechdb02 TESTDB TESTDB 1 Virtual CPU 4GB RAM CentOS Linux 6.5

Storage Configuration

Oracle Grid Infrastructure 30GB /dev/sdb1 ext3
Oracle Database Software 30GB /dev/sdc1 ext3
TESTDB_DATA01 35GB /dev/sdd1 ASM Disk
TESTDB_FRA01 35GB /dev/sde1 ASM Disk

Network Configuration

Server Name newzonetechdb02
IP Address
Virtual Network Host Only

Insert the CentOS6.5 ISO (64bit)

Start the Virtual Machine

1) Skip the media test


2) Select Basic Storage Option


3) Enter the host name as ‘newzonetechdb02


4) Select the ‘Create Custom Layout


5) Create the swap space

Physical Memory Swap Space
1024MB to 2048MB 1.5 * Physical Memory
2049MB to 8196MB Size of the Physical Memory
More Than 8196MB 0.75 * Physical Memory

In this case, the Linux server has 4096MB RAM, so we just need 4096MB Swap Space.


6) Create the volume for CentOS Linux


7) Select ‘Custom Now


8) Select following packages to be installed

Base System - Base
Base System - Client management tools
Base System - Compatibility libraries
Base System - Hardware monitoring utilities
Base System - Large Systems Performance
Base System - Network file system client
Base System - Performance Tools
Base System - Perl Support
Desktops - Desktop
Desktops - Desktop Platform
Desktops - Fonts
Desktops - General Purpose Desktop
Desktops - Graphical Administration Tools
Desktops - Input Methods
Desktops - X Window System
Development - Additional Development
Development - Development Tools
Servers - Server Platform
Servers - System administration tools

Finish the installation by click the ‘Next’, reboot the virtual machine.

9) Config the IP Address for the Linux

[root@newzonetechdb02]# vi /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
[root@newzonetechdb02]# service network restart

10) Disable firewall

[root@newzonetechdb02]# service iptables save 
[root@newzonetechdb02]# service iptables stop 
[root@newzonetechdb02]# chkconfig iptables off

11) Disable selinux

[root@newzonetechdb02]# vi /etc/sysconfig/selinux

change the SELINUX=enforcing to SELINUX=disabled
